The rifle had a turned down bolt handle and was an improvement over the earlier Mauser Gewehr 98. It was easier to aim and easier to operate. The rifle could fix a bayonet or fire rifle grenades. Today the mauser has significant collector value in Canada as well as utilitarian value. It is a more than adequate deer hunting gun and is very accurate and reliable.
